Keith “KAP” Phillip Jr. is a recording and mixing engineer based in Atlanta, GA, with a deep passion for transforming a blank audio canvas into sonic art that resonates with listeners. His journey into audio began at the Art Institute of Atlanta, where he discovered a love for audio editing, recording, and mixing.

KAP has worked in numerous studios throughout Atlanta, but a pivotal moment came during his internship at 12 Studios in Midtown. There, he became the personal engineer for Grammy-nominated songwriting duo R. City, collaborating with artists such as Elle Varner, Christina Milian, Usher, Tinie Tempah, Curtis Fields, TLC, and top-tier producers including Tha Bizness, DJ Mustard, Co-Captains, Maadd Scientist, and Guitar Boy.

In 2016, after building a strong relationship with producer Henny Tha Bizness, KAP became a foundational part of Space Studios. Together, they poured countless hours into cultivating a space where creativity thrived and “securing the vibe” became the guiding mantra. During this era, they worked with artists like Sammie, Jayla Darden, Levi Johnson, Josh & Angelica Bias, Blanco Brown, and EM JAI.

Before diving into engineering, KAP began his musical journey as a self-taught pianist at age 7, later taking private lessons and playing in his church’s youth band. He also picked up the alto saxophone in middle school, continuing to play through high school and into adulthood.

His interest in the technical side of music grew during high school while attending a music technology program at Grayson Technical School. What started as producing for friends and classmates quickly evolved into a passion for mixing and sculpting sound.

KAP draws mixing inspiration from industry giants such as Jaycen Joshua (known for punchy drums and vocal presence), Leslie Brathwaite (for his minimalist, in-the-box approach), and Josh Gudwin (for his smooth, polished vocal mixes).

Today, KAP works as a freelance recording and mixing engineer in Atlanta, building his client base largely through word-of-mouth and trusted relationships within the creative community. He continues to collaborate with rising artists in the city’s vibrant music scene.

KAP’s current mixing setup includes Kali Audio LP-6s, Avantone Gauss 7s, Heritage Audio RAM System 2000 Monitor Controller, Antelope Audio Discrete 4, and an Apollo Twin MKII, mixing primarily in Pro Tools 2019.
